The Temporada Alta festival becomes from this Thursday until Sunday a great showcase of the most groundbreaking scene with the Contemporary Creation Week, Sacseja’t. In four days, the scenarios of Girona and Salt will host the creations of a dozen international and national artists of reference, such as Romeo Castellucci, Circus Here o Marcos Moraualongside emerging companies like the hollowswhich will be seen by 75 performing arts programmers from ten countries.
Another year, and already twelve, the festival concentrates the best of contemporary creation from here and there to become a platform that promotes the internationalization of Catalan creators who work with non-conventional scenic languages. It does this by combining the proposals of artists with more than proven solvency, such as Cabo San Roque or the dancer Eva Yerbabuenawith others that are gaining momentum outside the country or who aspire to do so, promoting further encounters between professionals that may end up leading to new contracts or collaborations, such as co-productions or artistic residencies.
It is the case, for example, ofThe Count of Torrefiel, a value of the country’s contemporary scene with wide international resonance. For one of its members, Tanya Beylerthe festival was “very important for making the leap and subsequent consolidation” abroad from its participation in the Week of Programmers of 2015. He is of the same opinion Txalo Toloza-Fernandezwhich highlights that BadgerTolosa became an associated company of the Garonne Theater of Tolouse thanks to Temporada Alta.
El Conde de Torrefiel and AzkonaTolosa are two of the companies that will spend this weekend at the event. The first ones, with an inside lookon the contrast between the organic and the artificial, and the second, with Canto mineral, with which they start a project about the colonies of the future and the world of space. The big claim, however, will be the premiere instate of The Third Reich by Romeo Castellucci and the contemporary circus proposal Third partiesby Cirque Ici, in addition to the film version of the show temple of the present d’Stefan Kaegi.
Castellucci will bring the La Mercè Cultural Center Il Terzo Reich, a proposal with a performer and an installation part about “the dark side of the language”. “Language is something that comes from outside to control us, it is against us and there is a totalitarian attitude in the installation that makes us all feel strange in front of the words”, says the Italian author.
On the other hand, Johann LeGuillerm de Cirque Ici premieres at Temporada Alta with Terces, a marquee show for a single artist and a bench in which he establishes a dialogue “between very old things and others that did not exist”. And it is that, from its origins in the traditional world of the circus, it has led to “minority practices”, turning the tent into a “public laboratory” where it makes live constructions with poles of up to three meters, for example.
As for Stefan Kaegi, if a few years ago he went to Girona, together with the group Rimini Protocol a montage starring a robot, returns this year with a theatrical documentary about an octopus that interacts on stage with an artist, showing its intelligence.
As for the Catalan proposals that are presented as bait for international programmers, the immersive installation of Cabosanroque stands out Travel and flowers and the new show of Guillem Alba, I’m lonely. It is a very small theater proposal in which Albà experiments with the language of the clown “brought to a minimum” and the glove puppets to “seek more smiles than laughter”.
