The Moscow metro has launched traffic at ten new stations on the Big Circle Line (BCL) – from Mnevniki to Kakhovskaya. Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the launch ceremony via video link, and was launched by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

The Big Circle Line is a new ring line of the Moscow metro, which will include 31 stations. As conceived by the authorities, it will allow diversifying routes and relieving the existing metro lines during rush hours.

“Traffic is open on the section from Mnevniki to Kakhovskaya, which runs through the Western, South-Western and Southern administrative districts of Moscow and, in addition to new stations, includes a part of the reconstructed Kakhovskaya line,” the Kremlin’s website says.

At the end of the ceremony, the President noted that by 2023 there will be a total of 293 metro stations in Moscow.

Vladimir Titov, director of the Mostransproekt Research Institute, said earlier that some Muscovites will refuse to use the car when the BCL is fully operational. According to him, 13 thousand people will do it.
