The good series continues for Gaël Monfils. Three days after winning the twelfth tournament of his career in Stockholm, the Frenchman won 6-4, 6-4 for his entry into the running, in the round of 16 of the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna, Austria. He easily dismissed the German Daniel Altmaier, 47th player in the world.

The Parisian (89th), who returned to the top 100 in the ATP rankings on Monday for the first time since mid-January, on the strength of his victory on Sunday, was able to raise his level of play to continue to build on his current good form.

American Frances Tiafoe in next round

Facing Altmaier, Monfils, solid, managed to win the first set 6-4, after taking his opponent’s faceoff at 2-2. In the second round, a similar scenario: the Frenchman, very comfortable, even did a few dance steps during a change of sides, before winning again 6-4 in 1h26 minutes.

He will meet the American Frances Tiafoe (14th) for a place in the quarter-finals, a few days before the start of the Masters 1000 at Paris Bercy (October 30 – November 5), where no less than seven other French people are entered: Adrian Mannarino ( 24th), Ugo Humbert (28th), Arthur Fils (38th), Richard Gasquet (69th), Luca Van Assche (63rd), Benjamin Bonzi (87th) and Alexandre Muller (84th). The last four were invited by the French Tennis Federation.
