The Laver Cup is coming to Germany for the first time since its inception. Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal will also be there.
Top tennis star Rafael Nadal will play at the Laver Cup in Berlin in September. The 22-time Grand Slam winner will play in the show tournament in the Uber Arena alongside Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev for Captain Björn Borg’s Team Europe. The organizers announced this on Monday.
“At this point in my career I want to go out and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way. Playing in a team is always an incredible experience that I really enjoy. The competitions are different and exciting at the same time,” said the Spaniard quoted.
Nadal in the last year of his career?
Nadal has struggled with numerous injuries in the recent past and was out for almost the entire year of 2023 due to hip problems. 2024 could be his last year on the ATP tour; last week he celebrated his comeback in Barcelona after a three-month break. His big goal is the French Open in Paris, which he has already won 14 times.
Nadal will be serving for the fourth time at the Laver Cup (September 20-22) and will be one of six players on Team Europe, which will face Team World. In 2022 he played doubles alongside Roger Federer in London when he said goodbye.
