The Upper Room of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) confirmed that Xochitl Galvez committed slander against Claudia Sheinbaum and Morena for calling them “narcocandidate” and “narco party” during the presidential debates.
During the session this Wednesday, three votes against two confirmed the sentence in the Specialized Room with the sanction against the former presidential candidate of Fuerza y Corazón por México.

Judge Felipe Fuentes indicated that “the fact that there is a specific regulation, organized by the National Electoral Institute“, does not turn the debate into a field of immunity nor isolate it from the different types of regulations that electoral propaganda has precisely.”
For his part, Reyes Rodríguez asserted that the debates must have “a criterion that enhances these exercises that are of contrast, that have the maximum possible protection of freedom of expression“.
On July 25, the Specialized Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation fined Xóchitl Gálvez with 32 thousand 571 pesos for committing slander against Claudia Sheinbaum by calling her a “narco-candidate” and linking Morena with organized crime during the second presidential debate held on April 28, 2024.

In turn, on July 18, it was determined that the candidate of the Fuerza y Corazón por México coalition slandered Morena and Claudia Sheinbaum during the presidential debate by making statements that could lead to the belief that there is an alliance between criminals and the slandered political force.
In another resolution, the decision of the Specialized Chamber was confirmed that Claudia Sheinbaum did not commit slander against Xóchitl Gálvez for calling her corrupt in the second debate.
