Teradyne Robotics to Establish Major U.S. Operations Hub in Metro Detroit, Fueling Advanced Manufacturing Growth

Teradyne Robotics, a global leader in collaborative and mobile robotics, announced plans to open a new U.S. Operations Hub in Wixom, Michigan, in 2026, signaling a significant investment in the re-industrialization of America and a commitment to meeting the escalating demand for automation solutions.

Investing in American Manufacturing

The new facility represents a strategic expansion for Teradyne Robotics, designed to position the company closer to its customer base and bolster its presence in the rapidly evolving U.S. and Americas markets. According to a company release, the Wixom hub will initially focus on manufacturing Universal Robots’ industrial collaborative robots – commonly known as cobots – with plans to potentially include Mobile Industrial Robots’ (MiR) autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in the future.

Beyond manufacturing, the hub will serve as a crucial regional center for customer training, service, and a showcase for Teradyne Robotics’ technology through a dedicated visitor experience center. This multifaceted approach underscores the company’s dedication to not only providing cutting-edge robotics but also ensuring its customers have the expertise and support needed to maximize their investment.

Addressing Key Industry Trends

The move comes as North American manufacturers increasingly prioritize automation to address critical challenges. A recent survey revealed that 73% of manufacturers cite productivity improvement as their primary driver for investing in automation technologies. Furthermore, companies already utilizing cobots are experiencing substantial gains, with 87% reporting double-digit productivity increases. Notably, employee sentiment towards robotics adoption remains overwhelmingly positive, with 83% of respondents expressing favorable views.

“This new U.S. Operations Hub is a pivotal step to support the growth of advanced robotics in America and demonstrates our commitment to customers in the United States,” stated a senior official at Teradyne Robotics. “Our customers are looking to robotics not only to boost competitiveness, but also to make factory floors more attractive to the next generation of workers.”

Detroit: A Strategic Location for Robotics Innovation

The selection of Metro Detroit as the location for the new hub was deliberate, capitalizing on the region’s rich manufacturing heritage and its burgeoning industrial future. “Locating this hub in Metro Detroit puts us at the center of U.S. manufacturing and innovation,” explained a company spokesperson. “Being close to leading manufacturers allows us to deliver automation solutions to some of our biggest customers, enabling Teradyne Robotics to be even more agile and responsive.”

The region’s robust industrial foundation, skilled workforce, world-class universities, and expanding aerospace sector create an ideal ecosystem for supporting advanced manufacturing initiatives. The project is expected to generate over 200 jobs in the coming years, establishing a new robotics technology hub throughout Michigan, the Midwest, and the nation.

State of Michigan Welcomes Teradyne Robotics

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) enthusiastically welcomed Teradyne Robotics’ investment. “We are pleased to support a new U.S. Operations Hub for Teradyne, whose products and solutions are an incredible complement to the innovative and valuable supply chain that is found in Michigan,” said Quentin L. Messer, Jr., CEO of the MEDC. “The partnership between the company and the State of Michigan presents an incredible opportunity and competitive advantage for all involved.”

Teradyne Robotics already maintains a regional robotics office in Novi, Michigan, and its robotics research and development is based in Denmark. The company is a division of Teradyne (NASDAQ:TER), a leading supplier of automatic test equipment and advanced robotics.

The new facility will produce robots designed to work collaboratively with people, enhancing existing workforces and fostering safer, more efficient work environments. These scalable, AI-enabled platforms are engineered for agility, flexibility, and long-term performance, positioning Teradyne Robotics at the forefront of the evolving automation landscape.
