Tere Jiménez presents Aguascalientes’ progress in meeting sustainable development goals

The governor Tere Jiménez presented in Mexico City the progress of the state of Aguascalientes in compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) contemplated by the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations (UN).

“In Aguascalientes, we are committed to achieving a more just and equal society; therefore, we will continue to join the efforts being made at a global level that promote sustainable, more just and inclusive development,” he said.

In the framework of the presentation of the 4th Voluntary National Report Mexico 2024the governor made a summary of the contributions that Aguascalientes has made in achieving the 17 ODSespecially those related to the End of Poverty; Zero Hunger; Health and Well-being; Quality Education; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

Tere Jiménez He stated that in the state of Aguascalientes, society and government promote specific actions that allow to reduce the social gap and raise the quality of life of the population; “we will continue to join global efforts to achieve a more equitable and sustainable world,” he said.

By detailing each of the advances that were presented in the First Voluntary Local ReportTere Jiménez announced that among the actions that impact the Objective 1: End of Poverty, highlights the implementation of various programs and actions such as Daycare Centers, “Opportunities”, Pink Card and Common Good Houses, in addition to the delivery of economic subsidies to civil society organizations to promote high social impact projects.

As regards the Objective 2: Zero Hunger, the governor said that in Aguascalientes there are the Food Support and Family Gardens programs, as well as community, school and senior citizen canteens; while in Objective 3: Health and Wellbeing, highlights the Aguascalientes Popular Insurance; more medical infrastructure; the creation of the Institute for Comprehensive Care of Kidney Diseases and the State Institute of Public Welfare; the “Doctor at Home” program, the supply of medicines, among others.

In response to the Objective 4: Quality Education, Tere Jiménez said that in Aguascalientes digital educational tools are promoted; 90 percent of public schools have internet; the “Pasos Gigantes” platform was created, the Intercultural University for Equality is being built; different types of scholarships are promoted; the Dual Education Model is applied, and university careers that respond to the labor market are promoted.

To pay the Objective 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, the governor said that in Aguascalientes there is constant work to attract investments, as well as to promote programs in favor of businessmen and entrepreneurs; also in a series of actions to promote employment, such as the “Job Exchange Thursdays” and the “Employment Brigades” in neighborhoods and municipalities, among others.

He added that as for the Objective 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, the Security and Justice Plan “Blindaje Aguascalientes” is being developed in the entity, through which important programs and actions are promoted to guarantee the peace and tranquility of the citizens, such as the equipment and use of technology in corporations, the creation of new police units, as well as a constitutional reform in matters of justice.

Tere Jiménez also highlighted some other achievements that contribute to the other SDGs, especially in terms of environmental protection and water care; science and technology; gender equality, among others.

“We know that it is time to take actions designed to benefit of the new generationsbecause building a better tomorrow begins today,” the governor concluded.

The event, which took place at the facilities of the Ministry of Economy of the Government of Mexico, was also attended by the Governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal Anaya; Francisco Acuña Méndez, Head of the State Executive Office of the Government of Sonora; Andrés Soto Velazco, General Coordinator of Evaluation and Public Policies of the State of Hidalgo.
