by time news

Terminal 3 is expanding. Ben Gurion Airport is expanding its infrastructure with a new terminal – Terminal 3A. The skies in Israel are open and Ben Gurion Airport is the main gateway to the State of Israel. The Airports Authority reports that during the year 2023 it will continue to improve the service at the airport, also during the year 2023 it will inaugurate a new and modern terminal with an innovative and digital design that combines service efficiency and comfort, according to the Authority’s announcement.

As mentioned, the Airports Authority is speeding up the process of expanding Terminal 3 as part of the process of improving the service for those departing from Israel’s gateway – Israel National Airport. On the west side of Terminal 3, an innovative terminal will be built in which 22 check-in counters, security screening systems and conveyors connected to the HBS systems will be added. Efficiency in service and comfort for passengers. The terminal has an area of 3900 square meters, 30 meters wide and 130 meters long.

At the same time, and with the approval of the Authority’s Council and the Management, the Engineering Division of the Airports Authority embarked on planning for the construction of a fifth wing for aircraft parking at the airport, Wing A, adding areas for checking passenger baggage, connecting luggage conveyors, establishing additional food complexes for passenger service and establishing additional VIP rooms. The Authority and its management are working for a series of strategic moves, including the expansion of Terminal 3 and its adaptation to the expected increase in the volume of passengers. The procedures for the expansion of Terminal 3 will begin already at the end of the Tishrei holidays.

The trend of growth in international passenger traffic in Benghazi is expected to continue, and the Airports Authority is adapting the investment and development plans to the increase in traffic from Benghazi. The rates of increase in passenger traffic in Nabvih continue as Nabvih is expected to enter the category of the largest fields in the world in 2024. The growth and departure for infrastructure projects in the interim will enable a response to provide optimal service even amid an increase in passenger traffic.

According to the plan, the Airports Authority will make investments and adjustments from its budget in the amount of half a billion shekels in the short and long-term infrastructures of the airport. During the month of September this year, 2 million passengers will pass through the airport. In the month of October, approximately 2 million more passengers are expected to travel on international flights. More than 2.2 million passengers passed through the airport during the month of August. This year, passenger traffic in the airport is expected to end with 18 million passengers on international flights.

On the way to aviation chaos? Not if we plan from today
Arm A – once built – is expected to add about 2,000 additional passengers to the capacity of the airport on average every hour. Where is the catch? This is the last arm that the airport can build (after building the E arm 3 years ago), which means that in 10 In years or so the field reaches the limit of its capacity. In other words, we need to start finding alternatives right now, otherwise in a decade there will be aviation chaos here.

Director General of the Airports Authority Hagai Topolansky stated: “In the western part of Terminal 3 at Ben Gurion Airport, another advanced terminal will be built that will combine innovation and efficiency and expand the service for passengers going abroad. Starting next year, Terminal 3 will go through a digitization procedure that will make it possible to manage departures abroad easily through independent procedures. Our main goal is to improve the services provided to passengers through a strategy based on investments, innovation, long-term vision while moving to a digital and advanced field that will improve the service at Ben Gurion Airport and the flight experience for passengers”.
