Terminator villain is a reality..? Scientists with a robot that can take liquid form -VIDEO | Scientists create robots that can turn themselves into liquid

Do you remember the main villain in the movie ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ released in 1991 directed by James Cameron? The T-1000 transforming from liquid form to robotic form is a terrifying memory. A group of scientists in China is making such a robot a reality.

Scientists claim to have created shape-shifting humanoid, miniature robots that can transform into liquid form. They have shared demonstration footage of the robot in action. However, they are looking for ways to apply the new discovery in many situations.

Researchers have shared footage of the robots jumping over trenches and climbing walls on social media. Netizens have also watched with curiosity the videos of him cutting himself in half and moving objects with the two pieces together. Magnetic shape shift robots can also be used to control the device by passing electricity.

“We are pushing this material system in more practical ways to solve some specific medical and engineering problems,” said Chengfeng Pan, an engineer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong who led the study.

In an experiment conducted on a model of the human stomach, researchers used robots to remove the object stuck in the stomach and put medicine there. They also showed that robots can be used to dive into circuits and then assemble and repair them. Also, these robots will help in repairing screws etc. which are difficult for human hands to reach.

Carmel Majidi of Carnegie Mellon University, who contributed significantly to the experiments, said the future should further explore how these robots could be used in a biomedical context. “What we are currently showing are demonstrations of the robot’s working methods and proof of concept, but further study is needed to see how it could actually be used in the medical field,” he added.
