The tragic bus fire in Bulgaria that killed 46 people, including children, has caused great tragedy.

At least 46 people were killed when a bus carrying 53 people crashed and caught fire on the Western Bulgaria Highway early Tuesday morning.

A senior Interior Ministry official confirmed that seven people who jumped from the burning bus had been taken to hospital in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, for treatment with burns.

The incident took place at around 2am local time on the Stroma Highway, 28 miles west of Sofia. “The bus caught fire and crashed or caught fire and then caught fire,” said Nikolai Nikolov.

The victims included children, an official said.

Most of the victims were tourists from northern Macedonia, an embassy official told PTI.

Northern Macedonian Foreign Minister Pujar Osman said they were returning to the capital, Skopje, after a weekend holiday trip to Istanbul, Turkey.

A hospital official said the survivors were being treated.

Scenes show the burning bus being surrounded by firefighters and emergency crews rushing to the sealed area.

Bulgarian caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev is scheduled to visit the site.
