Mogadishu:Terrorist attack in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. Eight were killed. A car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, killing at least 13 people. Al-Shabaab, a spokesman for the militant group al-Shabab, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police spokesman Abdifattah Aden Hassan said the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a UN security convoy. Amin Ambulance Service Director Abdiqader Abdirrahman said 23 injured people had been rescued from the scene. It has not been confirmed whether UN officials were killed in the incident.

Al-Shabaab is a group that has been fighting for years against the central government of Somalia to establish its own Islamic empire.
