A suicide bomber has blown himself up in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, killing at least 32 people and wounding 63.
The Guardian reports this.
The tragedy occurred on the evening of August 2 on the popular Lido beach. First, one of the terrorists detonated an explosive device, after which other militants began shooting. The area is often visited by businessmen and officials and has been the target of attacks on several occasions in the past.
One of the terrorists blew himself up, three were killed and one was arrested, a police spokesman said.
Witnesses said there were many people on the beach at the time of the explosion. One witness described panic, noting that people were trying to take cover or run away. He saw wounded people on the beach, heard screams and noted that it was difficult to understand who was dead and who was still alive.
The publication clarified that the terrorist group Al-Shabaab, linked to Al-Qaeda, did not claim responsibility for the attack. Recall that Al-Shabaab has been waging a bloody uprising against the federal government of Somalia for more than 17 years.
