The American organization Consumer Reports published a large-scale study on the reliability of used cars. Consumer Reports carefully surveyed more than 150,000 owners about the condition of their vehicles and the problems they have. CR was interested in cars manufactured from 2014 to 2019.

Lexus and Toyota are the most hassle-free used car brands by a wide margin, confirming their reputation among buyers. Mazda follows in third place, and Acura and Honda complete the dominance of Japanese automakers in the top five. On the other hand, Chrysler, Dodge, Tesla, Jeep and Ram have the worst reliability ratings. Interestingly, the worst performing brands other than Tesla are owned by Stellantis.
