Tesla shares fell 7% after Musk’s words about the contract with Hertz

by time news

Tesla shares fell in price by more than 7% during the premarket on the NASDAQ exchange, to $ 1,122, according to trading data. By 14:20 Moscow time, the quotes won back a little, the price for the security was 1153.16 (-4.59% to the close of the previous trading day).

Shares in the electric car maker fell after company founder Elon Musk said Tesla had yet to sign a contract with Hertz to supply 100,000 electric cars worth about $ 4.2 billion, which was announced last week. The deal was the largest single order for the purchase of electric vehicles and the largest acquisition in the history of the service, which emerged from bankruptcy just four months ago, Bloomberg reported. The order is expected to amount to a tenth of Tesla’s annual production of electric vehicles. In 2020, Elon Musk’s company produced almost 500,000 vehicles, in the first nine months of this year – 627,500 vehicles.

“I would like to emphasize that the contract has not been signed yet. Demand for Tesla is significantly higher than production, so we will only sell Hertz vehicles at the same margins as consumers. ” wrote Musk on Twitter.

Hertz previously announced that the new Tesla Model 3 sedans will arrive at the company’s disposal by the end of 2022 and will account for more than 20% of its fleet. The first rental electric cars will be available at Hertz locations in the USA and some European cities and countries from November this year.
