The year is 2017 and at the expected iPhone X launch event Apple unveils a wireless charging pad called AirPower where you can charge your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods wirelessly at the same time. A year and a half passed and in 2019 the company admitted that they were canceling the project. Just before 2022 ends, the Tesla company (yes, that one of the electric vehicles) is launching its own new wireless charger where you can charge – you guessed it – 3 different devices.

No matter where you put the device – it will charge

The new charger, called by the very original and sexy name: “Wireless Charging Platform” (we know, super catchy), is able to wirelessly charge up to 3 different devices with a power of up to 15W per Qi standard device (which is basically almost every modern gadget that charges wirelessly, including iPhones). Just as Apple promised it would be able to do and in the end failed to do, Tesla claims that you can place your 3 devices wherever you want on the surface, without having to hit the point where charging starts, as standard Qi chargers require you to do. The charger does this using 30 different coils (from the FreePower company) that are spread across the surface, instead of one coil. It’s time to mention that despite the great resemblance to Apple’s AirPower, Tesla’s charger will not be able to charge your Apple Watch, as it does not use Qi charging technology.

This is what it looks like from the inside

According to Tesla, the charger was designed in the spirit of the Cybertruck, that impressive electric van that was supposed to hit the roads as early as 2021 and until now we have heard almost no update on it from the company. It comes with a rather nice aluminum casing, a delicate fabric on the charging surface and also with a magnetic stand that will allow you to place the surface with the devices on it, or completely carpet it. For this pleasure, Tesla will be happy to charge you no less than300 dollars. Hi – you pay a lot for branding. The first devices are expected to reach customers in February 2023.

Tesla’s special product series

From time to time, Tesla tends to release different and odd products into its official store: from a whistle for $50, to a more basic wireless charger, Cybertruck ATVs for children for $1,900, a cable keeper for your computer for $45, tequila, beer and other products that will make you itch the head.
