Tesla’s autonomous driving software will cost 25% more

Time.news – From 5 September Tesla will increase the price of its by 25% premium software for the driver assistance system (also FSD, Full Self Driving), going from 12 to 15 thousand dollars. This was announced by the CEO of the company, Elon Musk, in a post on Twitter. However, the tycoon did not enter into the merits of the monthly subscription, set at 199 dollars.

The electric vehicle manufacturer is also releasing a new beta version, also of the FSD software, version 10.69, which allows drivers to test the new features of the driving assistance system on public roads before it is fully debugged.

This isn’t the first time Musk has raised the price of the driver assistance system. In January 2022, Tesla had raised the price of the one-time payment from $ 10,000 to $ 12,000. Last month, Musk said the FSD was “ridiculously cheap”, considering the value of the service.

Tesla vehicles, even those equipped with Full Self Driving, it must be said, are not self-driving and require the driver to maintain the attention of the vehicle and take control when necessary. The latest version of the FSD, 10.13, includes updates such as improved unprotected left turns, animal detection, speed limit accuracy, and pedestrian and cyclist speed error. Musk said last week that Tesla has distributed FSDs with city navigation capabilities to over 100,000 owners to date.

The new Tesla vehicles are equipped with a standard driver assistance package called “Autopilot”, which includes features such as “Traffic-Aware Cruise Control” and “Autosteer”, and which is based on cameras, sensors, hardware and software capable of keep a vehicle in the center of its lane and travel at the speed of surrounding traffic.

Tesla’s most expensive driver assistance option, the FSD, includes what the company calls “Traffic and Stop Sign Control” and “Navigate on Autopilot” among its features. These more advanced features are intended to allow Tesla cars to automatically detect and slow down when road signs are present, to switch from the freeway access ramp to the exit ramp when the turn signals are activated, to make lane changes.

Only Tesla customers who purchase or subscribe to the premium option can then request access to FSD Beta and send feedback to the company when the system fails or behaves abnormally.
