Organized in partnership with the administration of the local prison of Tetouan, the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Tetouan, the University Hospital Center (CHU) of Tangier, and actors from civil society, this initiative is part of the Foundation’s interest in the health of prisoners, strengthening health care and social assistance for this category of society.

This caravan, placed under the slogan “Strengthening health provision, a fundamental entry point for reintegration”, benefited more than 300 prisoners, who benefited from around 500 services and specialized medical consultations, as well as free medicines.

Supervised by more than 20 medical and paramedical executives, this caravan made it possible to carry out consultations in 12 specialties, notably gynecology-obstetrics, cardiology, endocrinology, urology, gastroenterology and pulmonology.

In a statement to MAP, the regional coordinator of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the reintegration of detainees in Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Mohamed El Mkadmi, stressed that this caravan is part of the annual program of the Foundation in benefit of inmates of penitentiary establishments in the Northern region, in line with the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI, aiming to strengthen the health provision within penitentiary establishments, as well as for the benefit of the prison population of the region.

For his part, the director of the local prison of Tetouan, Hassan Ammari, indicated that this caravan is part of the implementation of the strategic orientations of the general delegation for prison administration and reintegration, aiming to support health services in penitentiary establishments, and to allow prisoners to access healthcare services and necessary health assistance, with a view to humanizing detention conditions.

He noted that it is also a question of bringing medical services closer to prisoners, in specific specialties requiring the intervention of doctors from the Tangier University Hospital, in order to allow residents to enjoy their fundamental right to health, in the strict compliance with the laws in force.
