The state of Texas will create a military camp for 2.3 thousand people on the US border with Mexico to counter the influx of illegal migrants.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced this at a press conference.

“To enhance our border security capabilities, we are building a new military camp that will enable the Texas National Guard to improve operations in the area,” he said, adding that the first phase of construction has already begun.

“He [лагерь] will be able to accommodate 1.8 thousand soldiers, and if necessary – up to 2.3 thousand people,” Abbott said.

Texas has repeatedly stated that the US administration does not properly protect the border, which has led to an influx of illegal migrants. In response, Gov. Greg Abbott mobilized the local National Guard to protect the border, stepped up barrier construction, launched a massive anti-drug smuggling operation, signed legislation allowing local law enforcement to detain migrants and judges to order their deportation from the United States, and also ordered the transport of migrants by bus to major American cities, including Washington, New York and Chicago. Since 2022, Abbott said, 102,100 illegal immigrants have been sent to other parts of the country.

The actions of the head of the region were severely criticized by the federal government and met with opposition from the central authorities. The US Supreme Court has ordered the removal of a roughly 30-mile (48 km) wire fence along the US-Mexico border in Texas, installed as part of Abbott’s fight against an influx of migrants. The Texas National Guard has blocked federal border patrol agents from entering the Rio Grande section of the border with Mexico. Abbott says the state will step up efforts to secure the border.
