Ahead of the Pongal festival, the films starring Vijay and Ajith, the famous actors of Tamil cinema, were released. In this case, various discussions are going on in the social media about both the films.
Fans of the two actors have been posting various comments on social media about which film has collected the highest collection and which film has got the most number of screens in the theatre.
Inheritance vs Inheritance
Theaters in Tamil Nadu are divided into nine zones namely Chennai, Chengalpattu, Coimbatore and Madurai for cinema release. 1,168 theaters are functioning under these. Tamil Nadu’s leading film distribution company, Red Giant Movies, had announced that theaters would be allotted to the Pongal-released Varis and Thadvu films.
In this case, on January 11th Vijay’s film Warisu and Ajith’s film Thadvu were released on the same day. While around 500 theaters have been allotted for both the films, since yesterday many people on Twitter have shared that the film is getting more screenings and theaters due to the positive response on social media.
Ajith fans and Vijay fans got into a debate over the information being shared that the scenes have been increased for Varisu. But neither the production companies nor the distribution rights companies have made any official announcement about the two films.
Bismi, a film journalist, criticized the increase in scenes for the film Varis on his Twitter page. In his post, he had posted that Warisu’s digital marketing department was falsely propagating that the film had increased exposure.
No explanation has been released on behalf of Varisu movie regarding this post till now.
Too many theaters?
A popular cinema ticket booking site has managed to get some information regarding the veracity of this claim being made regarding the movie Vaaris.
Cinema ticket booking site ‘Ticket New’ showed that Waris film was playing in 59 theaters in Chennai and Chengalpattu mandal on 14th Pongal.
It had the facility of booking 388 screenings for the successor film in addition to 59 theatres.
At the same time, Thadvu film is running in 56 theaters in Chennai and Chengalpattu zone, and 408 screenings have been booked for it.
Similarly, Mayajal Cinema in Chengalpattu Mandal, Chennai will have the most shows in Chengalpattu Mandal. While there are 16 screens here, the ‘Book My Show’ ticket site showed 23 shows for Varisu and 27 shows for Thadvu in the 14th booking.
Talking to BBC Tamil about this, Tamil Nadu Theater Owners Association President Tirupur Subramaniam said, “The information being shared on social media is completely false. Both the films have been allotted equal number of screens.
There will be no major change in the number of views allotted to both the films for another week. Only after 10 days will the number of shows in the theaters decrease,” he said.
While actor Vijay has a huge fan base in Kerala as well, a Twitter user posted that 35% of the theaters have released the successor film.
While the number of theaters is being debated, some users on social media have posted that the release of the two lead actors’ film on the same day is a commercial success for the theater owners and the theater owners are happy.
In a Twitter post posted on behalf of Karpagam Theatre, a leading theater in Coimbatore, it has been mentioned that till the end of the Pongal holiday, the support for the two films, Warisu and Thadvu, is good and all the tickets have been sold.

Some have criticized Thadvu for having too many gun scenes and violent scenes. A Twitter user posted, “Warisu released with no funny dialogues, no scenes of cigarettes, alcohol etc. is great to watch with family.”
A user posted on the social networking site that the three films released by Ajith Kumar – H. Vinod alliance, Neer Konda Prashi, Naamtha, Thavavu, have come out by talking about the ideas needed by the society and it is appreciable.
