While the critically acclaimed Beast film has suffered a setback, the next film starring Vijay will be directed by Telugu lead director Vamsi Baidipalli. Rashmika Mandana stars opposite Vijay in this film which is developing into a family story.
Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Sham and Yogi Babu have joined Vijay in Commander 66. Filming is currently in full swing in Hyderabad.

Fans were expecting the film to hit the screens for Diwali after the shooting of Commander 66 was over. But it has been officially announced that Commander 66 will be coming to the screen for Pongal next year.

Production company Sri Venkateswara Creations has released this information on its official Twitter page. Thus, it has been confirmed that no Vijay film will be released for Diwali this year.
Daman, who is a leading composer in Telugu, has composed music for Commander 66.

The film is evolving to include all aspects of family story, romance, action and sentiment. Vijay has been focusing only on action films for the last few years.
Since the release of Friend in 2011, most Vijay films have been action films. In this case, Commander 66 is different from action films.
