While the farmers were waiting to submit a petition to Chief Minister Stalin insisting on dredging near Thanjavur and compensation to all the farmers affected by the rains, the Chief Minister left Thiruvarur without receiving the petition. There was a commotion as the farmers staged a road block protest against this.

The farmers protested because they did not receive the petition

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin traveled to Tiruvarur via Thanjavur from Trichy by car to attend various functions including marriage in Tiruvarur district. In Thanjavur, Stalin visited the house of late DMK former minister Ubayatullah, paid floral tributes to his picture and consoled the family. After this we went to the tourist house and had lunch and left for Tiruvarur.

Thanjavur Ammappettai Bypass Road Near Muniandavar Temple, farmers were waiting to give their petitions when the Chief Minister visited. More than a hundred people, men and women, were waiting for the chief minister’s arrival for more than an hour. The officers on security duty had informed the police about the details of their petition. But the CM’s car did not stop and the petitions were not received.

After that there was a commotion as they protested against the non-acceptance of the petition. Regarding this, Thanjavur District Secretary of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association Kannan said, “The river, irrigation channel, lake etc. should be dug in the delta at the right time. Dams and barrages should be repaired. Farmers have suffered due to unseasonal rains.

Compensation should be given to all farmers affected by this. It seems that the officials visited the land where 75 farmers are cultivating paddy in Wodiarkoil area for the government to acquire it for the benefit of the power department. We were waiting to give the petitions to Chief Minister Stalin, which included the demand that Nanjai land, which could produce good crops, should not be acquired.

Farmers struggle

The Chief Minister’s car passed our stand before the scheduled time without stopping. Chief Minister Stalin, who always buys petitions from farmers standing on the roadside, this time left without buying the petitions. We had also informed the officials who are looking after the Chief Minister’s itinerary that we have come to petition. In this case, the Chief Minister did not accept the petition, which left us dissatisfied. Officials have also failed to make proper arrangements for petitions. We protested against this and staged a road blockade,” he said.
