In an interview with MAP, on the sidelines of the 12th edition of the Dakhla International Film Festival held from June 3 to 9, Mr. El Adl highlighted the particular interest that HM the King has in the cinematographic field in the Kingdom.

The Royal Vision has helped promote the 7th art and make Morocco a privileged destination for great filmmakers wishing to produce their cinematographic works, by providing them with the necessary means and infrastructure, he noted.

“When I was asked to research the problems facing Egyptian cinema, I relied on the Moroccan cinematographic experience which has made great progress in the field,” he said, believing that this development will have a positive impact on Arab cinema in general and Moroccan cinema in particular.

Speaking about his relationship with Moroccan cinema, Medhat Al Adal said that he has strong friendships with a host of Moroccan filmmakers, especially since he had watched many films since his first visit to the Kingdom in 1986, recalling that he was a member of the jury at the Cairo International Film Festival in 2012, in which the film “The Unbelievers” by Moroccan director Mohcine Besri was chosen as the best film in the Arab competition.

He also expressed his joy at taking part for the first time in the Dakhla International Film Festival, praising the good organization of this cinematographic mass and the quality of the jury that supervised the competing films.

The Dakhla Festival aims to be a model for other film events, after having devoted part of its budget to the “Dakhla Project” platform, dedicated to supporting new filmmakers wishing to make their dreams come true, he said, praising on this occasion the quality of the film projects competing within the framework of this platform.

It should be noted that Medhat Al Adal is taking part in the 12th edition of the Dakhla International Film Festival, as a member of the jury responsible for deciding on the eligibility of films for support within the framework of the “Dakhla Project” platform, which has a Moroccan, African and Arab dimension.

The jury, composed of Moroccan director Farida Benlyazid, Ouagadougou Festival delegate Alex Moussa Sowadego from Burkina Faso and director Moussa Touré from Senegal, has the mission of providing support in terms of financing and training for feature film script projects in progress by producers and directors, Arab, African or those from the diaspora.
