‘Tantaperuma’ by Kaduvakkunel Kuryachan

The mass film Katuva, which came to Malayalam after a while, was received by the audience with great fanfare. Kaduvacunel Kurichyan and I.G. The film tells the story of grudge and revenge between Joseph Chandy.

Tiger is a story set in the 90s. Except for the lack of male chauvinistic or misogynistic dialogues, Tiger is typical of Shaji Kailas’ films of the 90s. Despite avoiding male chauvinism and misogyny, Tanta Mahatmyam Shaji Kailas has Meinab as a vacillating character.

Just as the heroine in Queen repeats her own name Chinnu from time to time, the hero’s father Kaduvakkunnil Korath’s name is said to those who come and go. There are few people who do not know Korat’s hand in the police and the church. Even the Bishop of Kottayam has received it from Korath.

Kaduvakkunnel Kuryachan is a ‘good’ hero who fights anyone and anything with his arms, chest and the qualities of ‘being born to a good character’. But there is no mention of Kuryachan’s mother in the film. Kuryachan, who proudly adorns his father’s large picture on the wall, does not even mention his mother’s name.

This pride in his father’s name can be seen in Prithviraj’s previous films as well. Babymole’s dialogue in Kumbalangi Nights, ‘Everybody has a Tantaye Ullu’, which nailed the Malayalam heroes born ‘Otta Thantakum’ and ‘Nalla Thantakum’, was a blow against the patriarchy we celebrated in the 2000s.

In addition to this, director Prithviraj brought back Tanta Peruma, who had been left out as a Malayalee through the mass dialogue ‘Luciferil Tanta Tanta Ayala My Tanta’. Prithviraj’s heroism is to bring back the Tanta mahatmya through his mass heroes, while Babymole, in one word, speaks of the lack of technique in many Thanthas, and Amal Neerad breaks the stereotypes by presenting the brothers born to his mother through Big B among the heroes born to Thantha.

In all the Prithviraj films like Bro Dadi, Ninte Moiteen, Simhasanam and Thanthonni, we can see heroes who admire the blood and name of Thantha.
