Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Syeda Salma Zafarin has been transferred to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Recently there were serious allegations against him of misbehaving with employees. The aggrieved officers-employees have also made a written complaint to the Cabinet Secretary. In view of this, the Ministry of Public Administration issued an order to transfer him on Sunday (March 10).
According to the complaint, the life of the employees has become miserable due to the continuous misbehavior of Syeda Salma Zafarin, the additional secretary of the cabinet department and joint secretary Yasmin Begum. There has already been a ruckus in the administration with such allegations. Because this is the first time that the employees have made such a complaint against the officials of the cabinet department.
In the complaint signed by Monir Hossain, general secretary of the Cabinet Division Officer-Employee Welfare Association, it is said that the work environment is becoming toxic for the concerned because of the two officers. In the past one year, there have been some incidents that have happened with the officers working in various branches of the cabinet and report department of the cabinet department, which are on the one hand unacceptable as well as extreme examples of unprofessionalism. Syeda Salma Zafarin, Additional Secretary of this department and Yasmin Begum, Joint Secretary of the Cabinet/Reports and Records Division, behave harshly towards their subordinates. They are making the lives of some people miserable by even a small mistake. Although they have treated us in various unacceptable ways for a long time now, their behavior is going beyond the limit every moment. As a result of their brutal behavior, we are spending our days in fear. Which is making us mentally upset day by day. Their intolerant behavior, personal attacks are a manifestation of unprofessionalism as well as a sign of their incompetence.
The complaint also said that the pattern of adverse treatment meted out to us at various times made it seem as if we were picked up from ‘slums’ or ‘streets’ and given jobs. They find our ‘descendants’, ‘clerk’s kids’, ‘criminals’, ‘scumbags’ such unexpected and unacceptable jargon as a matter of course for them. Apart from this, harassment has become a daily occurrence due to unnecessary and deliberate detention in the office after office hours.
They also said that calling us various nicknames like ‘baby elephant’, ‘Hada-boda’, ‘landlord’s child’, ‘nawabputra’ etc. is a daily occurrence. He always threatened to deport him and asked him to leave his job and go home as he was unfit to work in the cabinet department. Their unacceptable behavior is making employees physically and mentally ill.
Several officials of the cabinet department said that the cabinet department is considered as a role model to other ministries and departments of the government. Talented, well-educated, efficient and clean image officers are posted in this department. But Salma Zafrin and Yasmin have ruined that reputation.
