There have been many interpretations of Lailamajnu, an Arabian love story. It is a story often referred to by Sufis to tell about divine love. Similarly, Husunul Jamal Badarul Munir is a century-old work by the great poet Moinkutty Vaidyar, adapting a Persian story.

Traversing the worlds of jinn and ifrits through extraterrestrial imaginations, this poem reveals the spiritual mysteries of human existence through the use of metaphors of male-female love. A rare hybrid of poetic imagination and idiom is the life of the work. Ten languages like Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada have been used in the composition, which finds a wonderful expression of the meaning intended by the poet with the subtle use of words and spellings. Kalamandalam Saila Salish and his team are all set to give expression to an occasion that touches the core of this famous love poem in the form of classical dance.

The story begins with a dream in which Husunul Jamal is languishing in the garden of Bagh Surur, exhausted, his body scarred by war and his mind troubled by love. A dreamland where the mind is blown away by the love song with Badrul Muneer. But suddenly the dream fades away.

When you smell it, the horn of the shajar will burn
Everyone was shocked and was in Phuvi
Husnul Jamal by Unnarndaf Kina
Shame on this hall with Udayon
Tunamuthan Mahbub Firinjdil also
Even if the wood is dry
Kunaketen thadikini baruanendam
Bidiya Chindan conducted in Qudram

The dream is cut off by the branch on which the two are sitting. Seeing Mushtaq in Jinnu world, Husunul Jamal wakes up from sleep. Removes ornaments and garland. Husunul Jamal, missing a valuable necklace in the crowd, shouts at Mushtaq. He asks to return the necklace.

She tells Mushtaq that she is determined to enter the field of blood, that she is a warrior of God’s destiny, that she is riding the horse of Aris, and that she bites everything like a snake that has lost its ruby. A calm Mushtaq calmed her down by telling her that he had not taken the necklace.

Don’t cry manasu bandurukanda thirumukum
Don’t make any fuss
Don’t get out of Khaswr, don’t have a wife

He took her to the Jinn world and made her stay and expressed his wish to marry her. But Husunul Jamal, who had his heart set on Badrul Munir, could not devote body and mind to Mushtaq. Announces that he has a rare disease and hence marriage is now impossible. Mushtaq, who is good and benevolent, says let it be as she wishes. That you can wait until you know what you want.

Fuwe nin barutham forufolom
If not, then Marifolum
But Sangam is not what I do
To recite Tumai Unichirifai

She is then absorbed in the memory of Badrul Munir and turns to the thought of devoting her life to her love for Mehboob.

“Aketan Badrul Muniraye
May no one join
Mahroom piled the wood
I bet Mahbub in Ishqil…”
