Ion Izagirre brought Spain and the Cofidis team their second victory in this Tour de France by winning alone, Thursday July 13, in Belleville-en-Beaujolais, during the 12 stage.
The Basque rider was 58 seconds ahead of the French Mathieu Burgaudeau and the American Matteo Jorgenson after losing his breakaway companions on the last climb of the day.
Arrived a little further, the Frenchmen Thibaut Pinot and Guillaume Martin, also present in the breakaway, made the good operation of the day in the general classification by crossing the line with about three minutes ahead of the peloton of favorites, including the Jonas Vingegaard yellow jersey.
Izagirre, 34, brings Spain its second success in this Tour de France after that of another Basque, Pello Bilbao, on Tuesday in Issoire in a stage with a similar profile. Previously, Spain had not won a stage on the Tour since 2018.
It is also the second victory in this Grande Boucle for the Cofidis team, after that of the Frenchman Victor Lafay who had put an end to a fifteen-year drought for the northern team by raising his arms during the second stage.
It is finally the second success in the Tour for Izagirre after that in Morzine in 2016. He also has stages in the Tour of Italy and the Tour of Spain to his name.

The Basque veteran built his victory on the last climb of the day, the Col de la Croix Rosier, breaking away from the group of breakaways about thirty kilometers from the finish.
He widened the gap in the descent before holding on in the final against six riders chasing him, including Thibaut Pinot and Guillaume Martin who did everything to promote the success of Izagirre, his teammate at Cofidis.
