After five long days of uncertainty, the 168 migrants rescued last Thursday by the Civil Guard patrol boat ‘Río Tagus’ off the port of Nouadibou (Mauritania) have disembarked in Senegal.

Mauritania’s refusal to disembark the passengers made the Government choose to transfer the migrants to Senegal, the country from which the rescued cayuco originally left for the Canary Islands. The Spanish boat headed for Senegal this Monday and began a journey that has not been without complications, including an attempted mutiny.

Finally, the mission has culminated with the arrival of the vessel at the port of the city of Saint Louis, on the northwest coast of the African country.

Sources from the Ministry of the Interior have reported that the patrol boat arrived at its destination a few hours ago and began the transfer of migrants to land. The shallow depth of the water made it difficult for the patrol boat ‘Río Tajo’ to reach the jetty, so the migrants had to be divided into groups and transferred in another smaller boat.
