The 20-year-old is the youngest athlete in her weight category (50 kg) at the Paris Games. She is also the first Lithuanian woman to appear in the Olympic arena.

“Don’t stop dreaming. We women are much stronger than we look. You can confidently choose women’s wrestling,” she sent a message to the younger generation.

Even before the Games, G. Dilytė openly said that she even cried when she heard that she had received a ticket to the Paris Games. The door opened for her here when the so-called “neutral” athlete from Russia was removed from the list of the Olympic tournament.

G. Dilytei’s tears accumulated even after the first fight. There was a clear reason for that.

G. Dilytė crushed Colombian Camila Cardazo Rey 6:0 in the freestyle wrestling round of 16 at the Olympic Games.

“Impressive, indescribable feeling. I got my revenge on this rival, so I was so happy with myself that at one point I even shed tears. When you get a rematch, it’s a completely different feeling than winning against the same opponent multiple times in a row. When you lose and then you win, then wow. At least for me,” said the athlete, who was brought by one of the teachers to wrestling training together with her twin sister Gabriele Kavarska while still in elementary school.

G. Dilytė was also captivated by the truly impressive atmosphere – the French who came to the wrestling arena support their own very loudly, and when others fight – they also do not spare loud shouts. Cubans and Americans also echo here. The name of Lithuania also sounds.

“It’s a unique thing when you see the waving Lithuanian flag and everyone is shouting and waving. Very good at heart,” she said.

G. Dilytė was open after her first victory – such a debut added a lot of self-confidence.

However, the second fight went completely the other way around – the encounter with the Cuban Yusnelis Guzman Lopez lasted 2 minutes. 51 sec. The representative of Cuba won 10:0.

G. Dilytė did not hide her disappointment that this fight turned out like this.

“Stop for a second and then…,” she said. – There are many lessons. We will discuss with the coach, we will work at home, in camps. There is a lot of work ahead. I’m really not satisfied with the second fight, but the overall performance is good. I felt good, I had a good camp before the Olympics, a good recovery.”

G. Dilytė’s fate now depends on YGLopez. If the Cuban makes it to the finals, G. Dilytė will still be able to appear in the so-called consolation stage, from which she can go to the bronze medals.

Mindaugas Venckaitis fought in the round of 16 of Greco-Roman wrestling (up to 97 kg) on Tuesday. He lost 1:5 to Uzur Dzhuzupbekov of Kyrgyzstan, so now he is watching how his situation will develop.

Mantas Knystautas also appeared in the Greco-Roman wrestling competition (up to 130 kg) on Monday. The latter entered the Paris Games while the Olympics were already underway, when the Tunisian representative was expelled for doping.

M. Knystautas in the round of 16 in 1 minute. 49 sec. Crushed Moroccan Oussama Assad 9-0, but lost to Chinese Lingze Meng in the quarterfinals. The score was 1-1, but the victory was awarded to the Chinese thanks to a point of activity in the second half.
