After the postponement from May to autumn, the XXXIII Turin Book Fair is preparing to resume its international breath: the 2021 edition, presented on Wednesday 23 June, will take place in attendance at the Lingotto Fiere from 14 to 18 October and will be dedicated to the theme already announced Supernova life, allusion to the postpandemic recovery, to theNew life Dante in the year of Alighieri, but also to the energy of stellar explosions. The presentation was attended by Silvio Viale, president of the Turin City of Book Association, Giulio Biino, president of the Circolo dei conti Foundation, and the editorial director of the Salone Nicola Lagioia, with Valeria Parrella and Ilide Carmignani of the editorial committee of the Salone, as well as Alberto Cirio, president of the Piedmont Region and the mayor of Turin Chiara Appendino.

The Book Fair – said Giulio Biino – it adapts to the times, to the circumstances, always able to be reborn and today ready to get going again. It was a useful period of reflection, even if it was imposed. The Salone aspires to become a model of public-private partnership. A salon in the presence, for which the access regulations are being studied. We do not want 2021 to end without such an important event – explained Silvio Viale -. Publishers are confidently confirming their membership. We have not given up in these two years and we want to be the first to come back in attendance. The October challenge will strengthen our planning. To comply with the anti-Covid legislation we will have a special office that will give answers to everyone, including the public: the only way to understand what the limits will be. We want to make a salon as normal as possible.

We dreamed of the Lingotto – commented Lagioia – in these months, in our impossible dreams. And he continued: At first we thought that the Salone would be more Italian instead it will have a schedule of great international authors, as usual with hundreds of meetings. In this year and a half, then, the book not only resisted, but relaunched: sales have grown and are read more, both in 2020 and in 2021.

And here are the first Italian and international guests announced for the 2021 edition: Andr Aciman will present Mariana, the new novel coming out for Guanda in October, Stefania Auci with the second part of the Florio saga, Winter of the Lions (North), the French bestseller Valrie Perrin with the new novel Three (and / or), the Spaniard Javier Cercas with the new Independence, published by Guanda; crime writer Alicia Gimnez-Bartlett, withAutobiography of Petra Delicado, published by Sellerio, the Argentine Alan Pauls with The ghost met, in September for SUR, Domenico Starnone with Mortal and immortal life of the little girl from Milan (in October for Einaudi), and then David Quammen, the Turkish journalist Ece Temelkuran, Carlo Verdone with The caress of memory (Bompiani), Jeff Kinney with the new one Schiappa for the Beaver. There are also extensive collaborations: confirmed the one with Frankfurter Buchmesse, the partnership with Lucca Comics & Games and other fairs such as Bologna Children’s Book Fair, while the finalists of the European Witch Prize and the winner of the Strega Girls and Boys will be at the Salone. And the children’s hall will be larger, occupying more than a third of Hall 2.
