Announced in the wake of the Goncourt, the Renaudot prize goes to the French writer Ann Scott for her novel on solitude published by Calmann-Lévy.

Unity of place and almost of time. Just after the Goncourt prize and from the Drouant restaurant, in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, the Renaudot was awarded on Tuesday November 7 to the 58-year-old French writer, Ann Scott for her novel published by Calmann-Lévy, Les Insolents.

She succeeds Simon Liberati who won the Renaudot in 2022 with his novel Performance published by Grasset.

Les Insolents tells the story of the arrival “in the middle of nowhere” of Alex, a film music composer who decides to leave the capital to reinvent herself, wishing to live “elsewhere and alone”. The character is a fictional double of the author, who left Paris for Brittany, where she now lives.

Born to a Russian photographer mother and a French art collector father, Ann Scott grew up in Paris before moving to London at 17. She was a model, a drummer in a punk band and frequented the underground Parisian night scene a lot. She started writing at the age of 29, notably writing the novel Asphyxie, then Superstar.

Among the other Renaudot favorites were the former Libération journalist, Sorj Chalandon (l’Enragé), published by Grasset, a house which had already won this prize in 2022, Lilia Hassaine (Panorama), Alexis Salatko (Jules et Joe), and Gaspard Koenig (Humus).

The other big favorite, Neige Sinno, having won the Femina yesterday with Triste Tigre (POL), Veiller sur elle by Jean-Baptiste Andrea won the Goncourt prize ahead of Sarah, Susanne and the writer by Eric Reinhardt (Gallimard) and Humus by Gaspard Koenig (Editions de l’observatoire).
