DECRYPTION – Before the first Grand Prix, Sunday, in Bahrain, review of the new vintage.
1. Is Max Verstappen the big favourite?
OUI. After a 2022 season that he literally flew head and shoulders over to win his second world title, the Dutchman appears stronger, and more serene, than ever. At 25, the tempestuous “Max la menace” of the beginnings gave way to “Verstappen le zen” even if, chase the natural, it can come back at a gallop. The fact remains that, when approaching this new season, the Batavian cannot be presented other than as the big favourite, by virtue of his talent, the qualities of his RB19, the ability of his team to put themselves entirely at his serve… There is no guarantee that he will be stronger in the coming exercise. But everything suggests that it will not be less so. And, even if the competition is progressing, Verstappen was crowned a few months ago with 146 points ahead. This gives an idea, to say the least, of the margin it has over its competitors, and which will not have disappeared as if by magic.
2. Can Lewis Hamilton overshadow the Dutchman?
