The 24-kilometer walk through Serra da Estrela that is only for the bravest
The Três Cântaros Trail is quite demanding due to its length and 1200 meter difference in level. Registration is now open.
It is expected to last eight hours.
In Serra da Estrela you can do more than make snowmen and ski. The landscapes and terraces of the Portuguese mountain are also the stage for various walks and trails, precisely the case of the one that will take place on May 25th, Saturday, from 9 am. But be careful: the Três Cântaros Trail is only for the most courageous and resilient.
The 24-kilometer route, expected to last eight hours, begins in Covão de Ametade, next to the road that connects Penhas da Saúde to Manteiga. From there, you will climb to the summit of Cântaro Gordo. Once on the central plateau, you will pass by the Covão das Quelhas and Serrano Lagoons, towards Penhas dos Abutres and Torre.
After regaining your strength, you will begin the descent to the Nave de Santo António, passing through Cântaro Magro and Cântaro Raso. At the end, you will return to the starting point.
This trail is quite demanding due to its length and elevation difference of around 1,200 meters, which is why the organization only recommends it to “experienced and well-prepared hikers”. “It is aimed at those who have a lot of experience in Walking and are in excellent physical condition. Physical resistance and the desire to overcome some of the more complicated points on the route are paramount. The route may present very steep gradients and significant technical difficulties. In some cases, specific equipment and tools may be necessary to overcome some obstacles”, warns Green Trekker.
The challenge is open to everyone over 16 years old. Registration must be made online and have a price of €20 per person, if you register before May 10th. If you haven’t decided yet, don’t worry: registration is open up to an hour before the start of the walk, but then the price increases to €25 per person.
