Malian cinema is the guest of honor at this 24th edition of FICAK, which will see the screening of six films by Malian filmmakers in the presence of directors, writers, artists and novelists from this country.

During this edition of FICAK, 13 feature films will compete in the official competition and 15 films will compete in the official short film competition, indicated the Foundation of the International African Cinema Festival of Khouribga, which notes that this 24th edition will be marked by the participation of 300 filmmakers.

According to FICAK, the jury of the official feature film competition will be composed of five international members and that of the short film competition will have three international members.

FICAK, which is celebrating its 47th anniversary this year, has maintained the African Film Critics Prize as well as the “Don Quixote” Prize, awarded by the National Federation of Film Clubs in Morocco.

During this new edition, FICAK will pay tribute to figures of African and national cinema in recognition of their long and brilliant careers and their rich contribution to the influence of the 7th art on the African continent.

A series of educational films will also be screened for the benefit of pupils and students in the region in close collaboration with the Regional Academy of Education and Training of Béni Mellal-Khénifra, as well as the organization of a screenplay competition, for the first time in the history of the Festival, involving screenwriters.

As part of its openness to its environment, FICAK will open the doors of the local prison of Khouribga for a new edition of the “Cultural Festival of African Prisoners in Khouribga”, a key moment of this continental event dedicated to the 7th art.

The programme of this Grand Mass also includes the organisation of a conference on cinema as well as the midnight debates of FICAK, a tradition recognised at the festival intended to bring cinema closer to film lovers.

FICAK, whose first edition dates back to 1977, is considered to be one of the oldest film festivals in Morocco and the third largest African film festival on the continent.
