The 171st “Akutagawa Prize”/”Naoki Prize” selection meeting was held, and the “Akutagawa Prize” went to Akira Asahina’s “49 Days of the Salamander” and K. Matsunaga’s “Bali Mountain Line”, while the “Naoki Prize” went to “Tsmidemic” Michi Kazuho.
Akutagawa Prize winner Asahina Aki was born in Kyoto in 1981. She made her debut in 2021 when she won the 7th Fumiko Hayashi Literary Award for “Shio no Michi.” In 2023, she won the 36th Mishima Yukio Award for “Plant Girl,” and in the same year, she won the 51st Izumi Kyoka Literary Award and the 45th Noma Literary Newcomer Award for “With Your Burning Left Hand.” Matsunaga K Sanzo was born in 1980. In 2021, he made his debut by winning the “64th Gunzo New Literature Award” for his work “Cameo.” This was the first time for both of them to be nominated for Akutagawa Prize.
Naoki Award winner Michi Kazuho was born in 1978. Debuted in 2007 with “Yukiyo Ringo no Kaori no Gotoku”. Published in 2021, his first general literary work “Small Worlds” won 3rd place in the “2022 Bookstore Award”, won the “Eiji Yoshikawa Literary Newcomer Award”, and was nominated for the 165th “Naoki Award”. This was the third time he was nominated for the Naoki Award.
