The 5th edition of the Moroccan poets festival from June 29 to July 1 in Tetouan

Organized within the framework of the cooperation between the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Department of Culture in the Sharjah government in the United Arab Emirates, this edition of the festival will pay tribute to emblematic figures of Moroccan poetry and literature.

This event will welcome poets participating for the first time, representing all regions of the Kingdom, as well as different generations and forms of poetic writing, with a diversity of voices and languages, including Amazigh, Arabic, Hassani, and Zajal, in addition to Moroccan poets writing in foreign languages, indicates a press release from the House of Poetry of Tetouan.

The festival, which will begin on Saturday (June 29) at the Spanish Cinema Theater with a ceremony in tribute to the poet Mohamed Achaari and the journalist Zoubaida El Fathi, followed by a poetry evening with the participation of Mohamed Ali Rebaoui, Sakina Habiballah and Aboufiras Brouk, whose opening will be hosted by the Lebanese artist Jaheda Wehbe, will close with the play “Ja w Jab” by the National Theater Troupe.

The activities of the second day of the festival will be marked by an inaugural poetry session bringing together Halima Ismaili, Mezouar El Idrissi, Hakam Hamdan and Zainealabidine El Kentaoui, presented by Abdeljawad Elkhanifi and ending with the presentation of certificates to students who participated in the poetry writing workshops at the École Normale Supérieure.

The festivities will continue at the School of Arts and Crafts with a meeting with the poet Mohamed Achaari followed by the evening “Moroccan Poets: Voices and Languages” with the participation of Yassine Adnan in Arabic, Salwa Ait Ahmed in Amazigh, El Batoul Razma in Hassani, Fatiha El Mir in Zajal, and Abdelrahman El Fathi in Spanish, presented by Fatima Farkal, the day will end with a visit to the contemporary art exhibition “Contemporary Collages 20/20” at the Bertouchi Gallery, featuring twenty visual artists working on the poems of the twenty poets participating in the festival.

The program also includes a symposium on the theme “Poetry: from creativity to artificial intelligence” as well as a poetry session bringing together Abdeljawad Elkhanifi, Khadija Saïdi and Khalid Boudrif, followed by the presentation of certificates to the visual artists who participated in the festival galleries.

A visit will be organized to the Taha Hussein Regional Institute, affiliated with the Alaouite Organization for the Protection of the Blind in Morocco (OAPAM), while the closing ceremony of the Festival will take place in the garden of the School of Arts and Crafts with a poetic evening on the menu bringing together Mohamed Aziz El Hassini, Fadoua Zyani, Salah Labrini and Moulay Rachid El Alaoui, presented by Driss Maliani, and hosted by the artist Thami Harrak, who will perform masterpieces of sung poetry that have marked the artistic history of the city of Tetouan.
