Speaking at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Arab League, Houssam Zaki, at the end of the work of this forum, the minister added that this international meeting served as an opportunity to exchange points of view and coordinate positions on a number of issues at the regional and international levels.
He continued that the discussions also focused on examining the common priorities of the two Arab and Russian parties in several political and economic areas, stressing the importance of this forum both bilaterally between Arab countries and at the level of the relationship between Russia and the Arab world, as well as Moroccan-Russian relations, recalling that this forum was held in a turbulent global context characterized by a number of political, security, economic and health crises.
Mr. Bourita also highlighted the importance of dialogue with Russia at this precise moment in view of the issues that arise and the delicate international situation, considering that Russia is an important actor and has influence on many issues, particularly those concerning the Arab world. “Therefore, dialogue with the Russian side has a role and a positive impact on the Arab world,” the minister said.
Likewise, he noted that the Palestinian cause and the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip were discussed during this Forum, with the call for a ceasefire and the delivery of aid to Gaza.
In this context, Mr. Bourita recalled the call of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to act together, each in his position for an urgent and concrete de-escalation, to put an end to military aggression, to achieve a lasting and verifiable ceasefire, to guarantee the protection of civilians so that they are no longer targeted, to allow the smooth delivery and in sufficient quantities of humanitarian aid for the benefit of the populations of Gaza and to project a political perspective for the Palestinian question likely to revive the two-State solution, as agreed by the international community.
The Minister wished to recall Morocco’s positions expressed by His Majesty the King, according to which there is no alternative to a real peace in the region guaranteeing the Palestinians their legitimate rights within the framework of the two-state solution; there is no alternative to an independent Palestinian state with East Al-Quds as its capital, and there is no alternative to the strengthening of the Palestinian Authority, under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas, Abu Mazen.
Similarly, Mr. Bourita noted that this Forum was also an opportunity to discuss the achievements of previous editions, previously held in Moscow, stressing that a positive development was recorded in economic relations between the Arab world and Russia.
Moreover, the political dialogue between Morocco and Russia, Mr. Bourita noted, is marked by regularity and positivity, both on the sidelines of international forums or indirectly, emphasizing the importance of rapprochement between Russia and the Arab peoples on the cultural and human levels.
Morocco is Russia’s third largest economic and commercial partner in Africa, noted Mr. Bourita, expressing the strong desire to develop the Russian-Arab partnership through the revival of the Russian-Arab Economic Forum.
