The Sierra Norte Bike Challenge (SNBC) celebrates its 8th edition on September 23, consolidating itself as the cycling festival par excellence in the Sierra Norte of Madrid. This event, designed for cyclists of all levels and modalities, highlights the versatility of the Sierra Norte of Madrid as an ideal destination for cycling lovers.
The starting and finishing point of the three events that make up the SNBC is located in Rascafría, a town located between the iconic ports of Morcuera and Cotos, places that have been the scene of several stages of the Vuelta Ciclista a España throughout the years.
The jewel in the crown of the SNBC is, without a doubt, the “Non Stop”, a 210-kilometer ultramarathon mountain bike (MTB) marathon that runs through the Sierra Norte Cycling Ring of Madrid, also known as CiclaMadrid MTB Tour. This route, permanently signposted, covers the entire contour of the Sierra Norte de Madrid, crosses 28 municipalities and offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the region.
From the impressive aerial views of the Sierra in the famous “Horizontal” to the immersion in the Sierra del Rincón Biosphere Reserve, this test promises a unique experience. Participants will also explore the valleys, hills and the Jarama plain, as well as the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, all through cycle tracks and paths. In addition, the route takes cyclists through emblematic towns in the Sierra, such as La Puebla de la Sierra, Lozoya, Patones, Torrelaguna, Montejo and Rascafría. Completing this test is a true feat and a personal challenge for the brave participants.
SNBC also presents the popular “Gravel” test, which focuses on the latest trends in cycling and highlights the abundance of tracks and roads in excellent condition to be explored on gravel bikes. In addition, the region has local and regional roads with very little traffic, even on weekends, making it a paradise for two-wheeled lovers.
Last but not least, the SNBC Family CiclaMadrid is a test designed for the whole family. This is a non-competitive, guided ride that allows you to enjoy the beauty of the Alto del Lozoya Valley by bicycle. The route follows the natural path of the valley, from Rascafría to Lozoya and back, offering practically flat terrain next to the Lozoya River. This event is ideal for families to join in the fun and experience the cycling atmosphere surrounding the event.
The Sierra Norte of Madrid offers ideal conditions for cycling all year round, with its paths, forest tracks, roads with little traffic and challenging mountain passes and hills waiting to be conquered by cyclists of all ages and levels.
