Former President Nicephore Soglo
In recognition of the extraordinary merit and the extraordinary contribution of a patriarch to the maintenance of democracy throughout his life, the Abakè Foundation awarded a tribute prize to the former President of the Republic, Nicéphore Dieudonné Soglo in the afternoon of Wednesday July 05, 2023. It was thanks to a sober and symbolic ceremony which took place at the home of the patriarch in great emotion.
At the start of the award ceremony, the former head of state thanked his hosts in these terms. “I want to thank you in the name of the people of Benin for the quality of the work you have been doing for years,” he said. The Vice-President of the Forum of Former Heads of State and Government of Africa, finally reassured his hosts that he will finish the work entrusted to him by Nelson Mandela by creating the Forum of Former Heads of State and of African Governments whose function is “to do everything so that we find our rightful place”.

For Abake Assongba De Rosa, president of the Abakè Foundation, the emotion was great. “It’s a baobab tree. When we take the continent, there is not the one who was a former president and not only who is still there, but who is equal to himself. It is a library and having this opportunity to award it this prize, it is an honor and a privilege for the Abakè Foundation”, suggested the President of the Foundation.
The ceremony ended with a family photo and a moment of celebration with the former president. It should be noted that the president of the Abakè Foundation was accompanied for the occasion by the coordinator of the foundation, Chérita Walter and other members.
