Speaking at a panel discussion of experts within the framework of the International Conference on Al Quds-2024, organized by the OIC in Jeddah on the theme “Al Quds and the war against Gaza: Identity and Palestinian existence under the threat of obliteration”, Mr. Cherkaoui noted that the international community’s attachment to law, freedom and justice must be translated into concrete actions leading to peace and stability in the Middle East.
In this regard, Mr. Cherkaoui cited the speech delivered by HM King Mohammed VI, Amir Al-Mouminine, President of the Al Quds Committee, on the occasion of the official welcome of His Holiness Pope Francis, on March 30, 2019, where the Sovereign stressed that “To deal with radicalism, the response is neither military nor budgetary; it has only one name: Education”.
The world is experiencing profound changes at all levels – economic, epidemiological, climatic and demographic – which must be taken into account to build a prosperous future for future generations, he continued, adding that the Agency has adopted Al-Qdos a proactive approach based on a digitalization strategy for achieving the long-awaited sustainable development for the benefit of the city’s inhabitants.
The Agency’s approach is based on the rationalization of funds provided by the Kingdom of Morocco, which remains the sole donor of this institution, and their allocation to the realization of concrete and relevant projects in the areas of health, education, culture, heritage protection, human development and social assistance, in order to improve life indicators in Al-Quds, underlined Mr. Cherkaoui.
Although these efforts remain insufficient, they can be a basis for achieving better results, through a continued commitment to rationalizing resources and taking initiatives, within the framework of consultation and cooperation with the various partners in the Holy City, he concluded.
