For the Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, who arrived in Chad in Ndjamena on Sunday August 14, the visit of the delegation will be the occasion for a mission to assess the situation. To this end, he will meet all political actors, opposition and majority, as well as representatives of civil society.

The day after the death of Chadian President Idriss Débyin April 2021, the continental organization had decided not to sanction the junta installed in power in Ndjamena but to accompany it, provided that a “ unconditional dialogue is opened between the transitional government and all relevant Chadian stakeholders, including opposition political parties and armed groups ».

The current president of the African Union, Macky Sall, was announced on the evening of Monday, August 15 in Ndjamena. Even if it is officially a bilateral visit, the Senegalese head of state will have to discuss with the Chadian authorities the requirements of the African Union before the arrival of Moussa Faki Mahamat, the president of the commission of the intergovernmental organization. He will be responsible for representing the African Union at the opening of the inclusive national dialogueSaturday, August 20.
