The agreement with Lebanon is Lapid’s worst strategic error of all

by time news

Three strategic decisions have been made by Lapid since he became Prime Minister, and all three point to a lack of political judgment, complicate the State of Israel and may bring about a difficult war that Lapid is unable to lead because he is not a military man. In my view, he is also not an intellectual with original thinking, he is not a man of books and certainly not a man of spirit.

See how he dismissed his friend Ofer Shelah with a wave of his hand, despite their long-standing friendship; See how he recruited people with economic power to his advantage, and in doing so demonstrated considerable organizational ability, but this is not enough to be prime minister in the Jewish state, which did not improve its fate by being persecuted by its enemies around, but also by its so-called friends, such as the European Union, which frequently appears in the institutions The UN is to its detriment, and to the benefit of its enemies.

In a period like this – and perhaps in any period – Lapid’s decisions are truly scandalous. The first was to worsen our relations with Russia, even though this allowed us for many years to weaken the Iranian front in the north by allowing Israel to bomb Iranian and pro-Iranian bases and their sabotage organizations.

On this issue, Lapid behaved like an elephant in a china shop by siding with Ukraine against Russia. A smart, rational and professional politician would have avoided supporting the Ukrainians. In this matter, it was appropriate to follow the popular proverb that says that a man should not spit into the well from which he drinks.

But Lapid did not pass the test and wanted to win voters’ votes and endear himself to the United States government, at the expense of the clear national interest of maintaining Russia’s lukewarm friendship under any conditions, which is sometimes more beneficial than the hypocritical friendship of Obama’s successors in the White House.

A second strategic mistake was Lapid’s announcement that he supports a two-state solution for two peoples. This is a catastrophic error because he announced this at the UN – in front of the leaders and ambassadors of the whole world – which will serve as an excellent claim by Europe and the United States towards the State of Israel. His announcement may be binding even if a new government tries to withdraw from it.

In any case, in order to support the Arab side in the conflict, this statement by Lapid will always be slandered against the State of Israel. He also gave it without receiving any mandate in the government, and without a long and in-depth public discussion among the Jewish public for whom the state was established. Lapid – if he succeeds in the upcoming elections – will certainly try to fulfill the two-state solution, which is nothing less than national suicide.

Lapid’s third strategic error – and the worst of all – is happening right before our eyes. The State of Israel, in its lack of leadership, formulated an agreement in which it gives up a huge maritime area in favor of Lebanon in order to satisfy the territorial appetite of Nasrallah and the Arab terrorist organizations. Lapid’s government is weak in protecting the strength of the country and its borders.
