Nearly a month after the devastating hailstorm in Velikotarnovo, the payment of the one-time state aid to the affected households has not yet begun.

People in the village of Sheremetya are unsure that they will receive anything from the state to partially cover their costs of repairing the damage.

Sheremetya was one of the villages of Veliko Tarnovo most affected by the fist-sized hail that fell on the evening of June 12, destroying roofs, gardens and gutting hundreds of cars. 103 houses are affected in the village:

“We don’t have people on the road, we don’t have people left behind by anything. We even help with donations for people who can’t react at the moment,” pointed out the mayor of Sheremetya, Georgi Gorchev.

From donations, 5000 bricks and roof tiles came to the village, which were distributed to the people. Households are fending for themselves and waiting for the one-time state aid, but not all will receive it.

“There are no roofs, no windows, the sheds are still battered, the cars. We are still recovering. Now we will submit the applications and then, we will wait for the state aid”; “I restored the roof, windows, but we need money, but we don’t have invoices”; “Who will restore us – no one will restore us, they only promise,” the local people said.

There is no decision on whether the injured 15 car dealerships in Sheremetya, where the hail destroyed cars worth hundreds of thousands of leva, can be helped, BNR writes.

Over BGN 4 million is the damage caused by the hail from a month ago in Velikoturnovsko.
