The business alliances in which the Asturian shipyards Armón and Gondán participate have definitively obtained 65.3 million euros of aid from the Naval Strategic Project for Recovery and Economic Transformation (PERTE), the plan with European reconstruction funds aimed at the technological and environmental improvement of the sector.

The Ministry of Industry and Tourism published yesterday the final resolution of PERTE Naval with the award of 80.7 million euros among 65 projects from 107 companies. The projects are grouped into four major winners: the alliance between the Pymar shipyard association and the state company Navantia, which obtains 57.8 million in aid; Marina Barcelona, which receives 8.4 million; Canarian Naval Repairs, with 6.9 million, and Soermar Medium and Small Shipyards Technology Center, with 7.5 million.

The 80.7 million definitively awarded by Industry far exceed the 56.2 million that had been included in the provisional award. Reparaciones Navales Canarias and the Technological Center of the Soermar Medium and Small Shipyards, which had initially been left without help, managed to have their allegations addressed. Furthermore, the alliance of Pymar and Navantia managed to convert the 48.5 million euros initially awarded to a definitive concession of 57.8 million, a figure that, however, is far from the 101 million euros that had been requested. This alliance in which the Asturian shipbuilding groups Armón (with shipyards in Navia, Gijón, Puerto de Vega, Vigo and Burela) and Gondán (with two shipyards in Castropol) participate, which are also partners of the Medium Shipyards Technology Center and Pequenos Soermar, benefited from the aid.

The Ministry of Industry and Tourism assured yesterday that PERTE Naval will contribute to the modernization of the sector in Spain, increasing its competitiveness by around 15% and achieving an annual growth rate of 9% for the sector. In addition, it is expected to contribute to the creation of nearly 3,100 quality jobs, mainly in peripheral regions. “With the aid from this PERTE we intend to improve the quality of employment and increase the competitiveness of this sector. We are committed to quality, qualification and digitalization to reach high levels of modernization in ship construction,” said Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry. Taking into account the registered office of the applicant entities, the autonomous communities that will benefit the most from the subsidies will be the Basque Country, the Valencian Community, Catalonia, Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria, in addition to Madrid.
