The Holy Quran reading and memorization competition closed on Sunday March 24, 2023 after several days of competition.
There were initially 120 young people, including 11 girls of all age groups, to take part in the closing of the 6th edition of this competition for reading and memorizing the Holy Quran under the initiative of the “Aly Diaouné” foundation.
At the Donka Islamic Center, these Islamic learners from the 13 prefectures received motorcycles, computers, a car for first place as well as a copy of the Holy Quran each.
For Ibrahima Diaouné, the initiator of this religious meeting, the promotion of Islamic education among the juvenile population especially is his source of motivation.
“Today, as you can see, we are at the closing ceremony of the 6th edition of the Holy Quran reading and memorization competition organized by our foundation, the Aly Diaouné foundation.
The objective here is the promotion of Islamic culture, particularly through Koranic teaching of girls and boys, especially young people. So alhamdoulilaye this year after the preselection competition we selected 120 candidates, in the 120 I believe there were 98 who competed and the 120 were selected between 13 prefectures and the city of Conakry.
They competed from March 21 to 23, 2024 and today we have winners who humbly deserved their prize and I think they left satisfied,” he revealed.
As a logical continuation, Mr. Diaouné rolled out the numerous initiatives specific to this same cause. And this, without support.
“It depends on their age and their level. We also have the continuity of teaching, especially higher education at the level of international Islamic universities. Last year we had winners of our competition who had the baccalaureate level who could continue their studies and these young people decided to accompany them to their boarding school or to the various Koranic schools. When they have the level to continue their studies, we also assist.
We can always say that we are supported but mainly, it weighs mainly on the founder and some goodwill. So we have no formal support from any State or any institution but we continue anyway,” he said.
Present on the scene, the representative of the Minister Secretary General of Religious Affairs, the Director of Islamic Affairs, Dr Souleymane Sidibé, welcomed the initiative and encouraged others to increase this practice.
“What drives us today is satisfaction. We are really very happy with what happened. The Secretary General of Religious Affairs, the message that the President of the Republic asked him for is peace and social cohesion. The Koran when we say peace and social cohesion is the Koran. So all those who advocate, who organize the Koran competitions want peace to reign in the country.
We saw the gifts that the Diaouné foundation brought for the winners, which really gives the value of Islam and encourages children to memorize the Holy Quran. So we call on all parents to convey this message, to help the foundation but also our government for the good education of our children through religion.
