The Amaia Cultural Center will host next weekend a double performance of Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece, ‘La Bohème’. The show was presented this Friday at the Irundarra town hall with the presence of the artistic cast of the work, the director of the Luis Mariano Lyric Association, Ángel Pazos, and the Culture delegate, Borja Olazabal, who thanked the association for “the work that he does every year to bring high-level operatic shows to the city ».

The councilor has highlighted «the commitment that Irun has made for many years for poetry. Not all cities can say that they have opera in their theaters and in that sense we are benchmarks. We are satisfied and proud of it.”

Tickets for the sessions on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23, both at 7:00 p.m., are on sale on the AmaiaKZ website (https://amaiakz.sacatuentrada.es/) and at the Luis Mariano tourist office at a price of 32 euros for the general public, 25 euros for members of the lyrical association and 10 euros for those under 25 years of age.

The first staged show of the 2023 lyrical season will be special for the Luis Mariano Lyrical Association, which has prepared a program with something more than “glittering and great titles” to celebrate its 20th birthday. “La Bohème is one of the most performed operas in history”, Ángel Pazos has meant. «We have formed a great cast without forgetting our orchestra and choir Luis Mariano, which will be seconded by the Ametsa Txiki choir. For us it is a pride to work with other entities of the city”.

Pazos explained that ‘La Bohème’ shows us “the veracity of its characters. The action takes place in Paris, in the Montmartre neighborhood. It was the first time that an opera was captured in such specific and real places and it is perhaps the romantic opera par excellence. It tells the story of the bohemian life of four main artists who tell their loves and misfortunes.

The stage director, Alfonso de Filippis, described it as an “honor to work abroad with an Italian opera” and highlighted one of the particularities of ‘La Bohème’. «In 90% of the operas the plot is similar. That is, a tenor who loves a soprano and a baritone who disagrees. In ‘La Bohème’ no. For artists it is fantastic because it speaks precisely about us, about artists, in this case about young people with great ideals».
