Petar Tanev doubts that it is not also directed against his son – also Petar Tanev, who is with Putin’s opposition
The “Russian connection” is promoted quite consciously by certain circles in Bulgaria, but in reality the whole thing is also against my son’s activity, which does not fit into the “Russian connection” thesis at all.
Thus, Petar Tanev, who was suspended as ambassador to Ukraine, commented on the inter-institutional scandal, which has been swirling for the third day around his name and the sending to Kyiv of the former Minister of Defense Nikolay Nenchev as a temporary administrator.
Although it was proposed by Maria Gabriel and agreed with President Rumen Radev, Tanev’s ambassadorial appointment did not happen because Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov did not sign it – the only name from the package of 6 ambassadorial appointments in the autumn of last year, which was personally stopped by the academician .
Two reasons were launched – first, because of the “Russian connection”,
because Tanev was married to a Russian woman, and secondly, because Kiev had expressed disapproval. Tanev denied both, explaining that he and his wife, who is indeed a citizen of the Russian Federation, have been separated for more than 15 years, and that there was no refusal from the Ukrainian side for his candidacy. Tanev also applied for trade attache in Kyiv, but was rejected for this position by the then Minister of Economy, Bogdan Bogdanov, “24 Chasa” learned.
He admitted that all this may be directed against the activities of his son, who bears the same name – Petar Tanev. The young man has both Bulgarian and Russian citizenship, and is currently the coordinator in Brussels of the association uniting the larger Russian opposition groups.
“The lies that are being spread about my father in the media, that Kiev did not agree to his candidacy for ambassador because he is “pro-Russian” and “his wife is a Russian citizen”, is the most false and the most absurd thing , which I have read. First, our family is the most pro-Ukrainian with a clear understanding that the Putin regime is the most serious threat to Bulgaria and the entire democratic world. I think with my example everyone understood this. I have personally suffered from this regime, and my father has always fought for the cause of a pro-European Bulgaria, without Kremlin influence,” wrote young Tanev on Facebook.
He adds that the embassy of Ukraine in Sofia never once
no agreement request received
of his father. “The whole situation is an example of the typical internal political clashes of the so-called a shadow country in our country. It is also an example of typical amateur work in the institutional environment of Bulgaria. It’s a pity that because of this the status and perception of Bulgaria in the international world suffer”, commented the young Tanev.
His father stated that he was proud of his son’s bright civic positions. In his Facebook profile, Tanev Jr. has published what he thinks about Putin’s regime, welcoming the first days of 2024 in Kyiv: “First, as a citizen of Russia, everything I see now makes me at least ashamed of the regime , who presents himself on behalf of the country in which I was formed as a person. They are the same enemies to me. I hope that one day we will be able to break this continent-damaging system, despite all the skepticism.
Second – and the key for me, as a citizen of Bulgaria and the European Union, despite all the rising stupid populist skepticism, I will continue to fight for fair support for Ukraine in the fight against terror within the walls of the political structures of the EU in the form of all kinds of instruments : lobbying in the improvement of the pan-European sanctions policy, signaling and eliminating pro-Kremlin structures in Europe, etc. Because this is actually our common struggle against the dangerous influence of the Kremlin regime, which brings poverty, corruption, political instability, destruction and death. This is a strategic interest for Bulgaria, so my views are the most patriotic.”
According to father Tanev, in the case of his candidacy for ambassador in Kyiv, those who did not want our mission there to have a professional diplomat who can do analyzes and has always worked in difficult areas intervened. Tanev held mandates in Moldova (during the Bulgarian chairmanship of the OSCE), in Ukraine (2012-2016) and in Syria during the civil war. He has an impeccable career and there are no and cannot be any objections to his work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in foreign missions, the department said.
A high-ranking official commented that Tanev was a victim of “friendly fire” and was “shot” with the Russian motive, in order to be sent to Kiev as interim ruler Nikolay Nenchev, who is an enemy of President Radev. The source recalled that the former Minister of Defense and Radev have been at enmity for years, starting from the dispute over where to repair the engines of our Russian MiG-29s.
The appointment of heads of diplomatic and consular missions is a sovereign right of every country, the embassy of Ukraine in our country responded. In their official communiqué, it is emphasized that the country is interested in the active development of bilateral contacts and practical cooperation in all spheres of mutual interest. And that he will welcome the appointment of the head of the Bulgarian mission. Which probably means that they expect our diplomat to go to Kiev as soon as possible after all.
