The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) in coordination with the Government of Japan delivered a modern CT scanner to the General Teaching Hospital Ambato, located in the province of Tungurahua.
This equipment allows procedures to create detailed high-quality images or scans of internal regions of the body that makes immediate diagnosis possible for timely treatment of the patient. In addition, the innovative features of this equipment generate savings in radiation doses.
Imaging service personnel were trained and instructed in the use of the new tomograph that came into operation last week.
Joffre Aguacunchi, 26, is one of the beneficiaries of a tomography “Today I had a skull tomography for control, I had a traffic accident and I was operated on in this hospital, having modern equipment gives us the security of patients to be well treated and have an accurate diagnosis.
With the implementation of this equipment, the workflow is optimized, increasing the number of patients examined and reducing waiting times. In the year 2022, 13,283 tomographies were performed at this health home.
Tomography studies are safe, painless and non-invasive. In the private sector, the cost of a CT scan ranges between 150 and 300 dollars, while in this establishment it is totally free, as are all the services offered by the Ministry of Public Health nationwide.
Between 2022 and 2023, 10 tomographs have been delivered nationwide that have been installed in the Hospital de Durán, Verdi Cevallos de Portoviejo; Homero Castanier Crespo in Azogues; Dr. Francisco de Icaza Bustamante Children’s Hospital in Guayaquil; Isidro Ayora de Loja; General in Macas; Abel Gilbert Pontón Hospital, and now at the Ambato General Hospital. This is within the framework of strengthening health services focused on adequate supply and equipment.
This CT scanner was donated by the Government of Japan under the non-reimbursable international financial assistance program with a lump sum of $6 million.
