The answer to the historical mystery, was Juana de Castilla crazy or kidnapped?

by time news

In the XIX century, Joan of Castile, circumstantial heiress to the kingdoms of Aragon and Castile, became ‘la loca’ in the eyes of the romantics, who viewed her more as a literary character than a real one. Even today it is not easy to find an answer that combines history, literature and medicine. It is almost impossible to diagnose a possible disease so many centuries away, but experts have always argued that what began as a mild psychopathy, exacerbated by his isolation and early sexual awakening, led over the years and dislikes to a schizophrenic picture. .

.

Juana was a serious, introverted and very intelligent girl whose sudden infatuation with Philip of Burgundy, her Flemish husband, aroused latent psychological problems. Her jealousy towards the Flemish ladies led her to attack the most brazen women and break objects. In that isolated situation, she began to forget to pay her servers and repeatedly stared into space. Her attitude would have been indifferent to Spain, if not outside of it due to the chain of deaths that suddenly made her its Queen.

Her husband, a true psychological abuser, forced her not only to accept the Castilian Crown, but to do so in opposition to her father Fernando. Nevertheless, the reign of Philip I It lasted just a few months and, after his death, Juana wandered for months next to her husband’s body showing all those present her mental problems. Without wondering if it was a transitory state or not, Fernando decided to intern her daughter in Tordesillas, where she remained in captivity for 46 years. The delusions were to more.
