“About fifty everyday products” will be offered at cost prices in supermarkets.

While discussions are still ongoing with large retailers, the Minister in charge of Trade announced this Monday morning the implementation of the anti-inflation basket “from March [et] for three months“. Concretely, aearly fifties» of everyday products will be offered at cost price – against around twenty stated a fortnight ago – to cushion the effects of inflation.

These products will include meat, dairy products, hygiene references but also “fresh and organic products“said Olivia Grégoire on Europe 1. Each sign will choose the references put forward, but equivalences will have to be found. For example, if a group includes a white meat, its competitors will have to do the same.

The implementation of this anti-inflation basket will go through voluntary commitments by brands and not through legislative or regulatory provisions. “Obviously, the distributors did not wait to set up operations of punches, and fortunately, but they do it in a disordered way and I propose a collective action to them“, emphasizes the Minister in charge of Trade, “but there are two pitfalls to be guarded against, the right to competition and suppliers».

On January 16, Jacques Creyssel, of the Trade and Distribution Federation, however, declared that he had “had no proposal from the government at this stage, simply a message asking us if we were ready to attend a working meeting on the subject“. And to add: “I said that we agreed to work, without saying that we agreed on a proposal. At this stage, we have no position on a proposal that we do not know.”
