Jean-Michel Blanquer’s appeal in Loiret was rejected by the Constitutional Council on Friday January 27. This also validated the election of Minister Clément Beaune during the June legislative elections, and canceled the election of Bénédicte Taurine (La France insoumise, LFI) in Ariège.

The body responsible for electoral disputes rejected eight of the appeals presented in nine constituencies, including that presented by the former Minister of National Education, eliminated in the first round in the 4e constituency of Loiret, largely won in the second round by Thomas Ménagé (National Rally, RN) with 63.36% of the vote. The election of a short head of Minister Clément Beaune is validated in the 7e constituency of Paris. He won the second round with 658 votes ahead of candidate Caroline Mecary (LFI) who had appealed.

New ballot planned in Ariège

The Constitutional Council, on the other hand, accepted the appeal filed in the 1re constituency of Ariège by Jean-Marc Garnier (RN), eliminated in the first round only eight votes behind Anne-Sophie Tribout (La République en Marche, LRM), beaten in the second by Mme Taurine with 55.31% of the votes. Ballots bearing the name of an RN candidate in another constituency of the department “were mixed with those in the name of Mr. Garnier, in the polling stations of the municipality of Tarascon-sur-Ariège”found the organization, which found 136 ballots in the name of the other RN candidate.

“Given the difference (…)the failure to take into account irregular ballots (…) in the counting of the votes could have had the effect of modifying the identity of the candidates qualified for the second ballot and thus altered the sincerity of the vote., estimated the Constitutional Council. For this constituency, a new election must be organized within three months.

The body rejected appeals in six other constituencies, validating the tight election results. The elected deputies concerned are: Jean-Marc Tellier (New Popular Ecological and Social Union, Nupes) in the 4e constituency of Pas-de-Calais, Jean-François Lovisolo (LRM) in the 5e du Vaucluse, by Brigitte Klinkert (LRM) in the 1re du Haut-Rhin, by Damien Adam (LRM) in the 1re of Seine-Maritime, Fadila Khattabi (LRM) in the 3e of Côte-d’Or and Robin Reda (LRM) in the 7e of Essonne.
